Congratulations to CCSC Waterpolo player, Dan Paddon, on his selection to play for Great Britain at the World University Games, which is one of the most prestigiuos Waterpolo events in the world.

Dan is a great ambassador for both Waterpolo and Chelmsford City Swimming Club, having gained an interest in the sport after a taster session was offered at his school, Great Baddow High School, when he was in Year 7.

Dan is still involved with our club, and Head Waterpolo Coach Dean is delighted to see how far he has progressed and to see that Dan is still a Chelmsford fan wherever he goes!

“I started playing water polo after a taster session at Great Baddow High School. Dean Walker, The Head water polo coach at Chelmsford City Swimming Club, came in to take the session and asked me to join the club.
I had my first experience of international water polo two years ago (2015) in a completion in Malta for English Schools where we won gold. A year later (2016), I was selected as vice captain of Great Britain U19’s (1997 born) to compete at the European Qualifiers in Turkey. This year I made my senior debut for England where we got Bronze at the EU Nations.
I am currently in Chinese Taipei representing Great Britain at the World University Games (WUGs). We will be competing again France, Korea and the hosts Taipei in the group stages. The WUGs is the second biggest competition in the world after the Olympics so it is a huge honour to be selected to compete on this sort of stage and I cannot wait to compete.
If it wasn’t for Dean Walker or Chelmsford City Swimming Club, I wouldn’t have tried water polo or have become an International athlete. Thank you.”
