Life Saving

Chelmsford City Swimming Club’s Lifesaving division offers various lifesaving opportunities for everyone to get involved.

We are about to start (on Jan 11th 2017) the RLSS Survive and Save Silver Medallion Award, which follows on from the Bronze Medallion.  It is suitable for any person who is a confident swimming and minimum 12 years old. All the skills taught will support the GCSE and A/ AS level PE courses. This course is also very popular with Duke of Edinburgh participants as part of their skill or sport challenge.

Sessions are run on Wednesday evenings at Riverside Ice and Leisure Centre from 7.15pm in the Meeting Room upstairs, where we complete 45 minutes of dry side work on first aid, CPR and lifesaving theory, then do pool skills (rescue skills and survival) from 8-9pm.

For more information and to register your interest in the course please contact lifesaving@chelmsfordcityswimmingclub.org.uk.

Details of the Lifesaving Qualifications

RLSS UK’s Survive & Save is the lifesaving awards programme for teens and adults (12years+). The awards are challenging but fun to complete and they are arranged into Bronze, Silver and Gold levels to ensure that you continue to develop your lifesaving skills as you progress through the awards.

The awards teach lifesaving rescue, self-rescue, survival, sport lifesaving skills and also develop swimming ability and fitness.

There are four award areas to achieve, the Medallion Awards, the Beach Awards, the Stillwater Awards and the Sport Awards and you can choose to specialise in one area or learn a broader range of skills by completing multiple awards.  CCSC currently run the Medallion awards only, but the others are available at some other pools in Essex.

The highest achievement in the Survive & Save Programme is the Distinction Award, which is awarded to those who achieve 3 Gold Level awards within a 24 month period.

  • Every session will include one of the following:
  • Stroke work
  • Stamina building
  • Speed swimming
  • An activity to practice and improve skills
  • We work to the RLSS 10 week award syllabus
