Welcome to Competitive Swimming

Competitive swimming is a very popular sport, with a variety of distance races in butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle, and individual medley. In addition to individual events, four swimmers can take part in either a freestyle or medley relay.

The Competitive Swimming section of Chelmsford City Swimming Club offers a structured development programme, providing swimmers with the opportunity to develop their swimming skills and enable them to represent our Club at a competitive level.

Competition swimming is fun; it creates great team spirit and can be very rewarding. It involves a commitment to the training programme from the outset, from both parents and swimmers alike, to progress through the various squads, and it certainly helps keep children fit!

Swimmers can take part in competitions from the age of 9 and the Club regularly enters teams in both league and trophy competitions as well as local galas, Swim England Essex Championships, Swim England East Region Championships and also the Swim England National Events.

The Club also holds an annual Club Championship, which is open to all club members to enter, giving everyone a chance to compete, including the under 9’s, Just Swim, Masters, Water Polo and Artistic Swimming members.

To join the Club children must be at least 7 years old and have good stroke technique and the stamina to swim 250 metres continuously. In addition to the above, as a guide, swimmers starting out in our Academy section will need to have the skills outlined in the Swim England Learn to Swim Stage 7.

Squad allocation is based on age, experience, ability and also a swimmers commitment to the training programme.

As and when spaces are available we hold trials where the coaches will assess a swimmer and let you know where they may fit in our various squads. Check that you first meet the minimim age and swimming requirements as detailed above –  we do not provide swimming lessons. Complete the Membership Application form and we will let you know as soon as we have a space / date for the next trial.
